Reviews of "Under the Bed":

TRACK: Under The Bed.

WHO: Kids Love Lies.

WHAT: Powerful, punky pop

THE HYPE: "Absolutely brilliant lyrics!" - Tom Robinson, BBC6 Music

WE SAY: Under The Bed kicks off with an energetic riff that races into a cacophony of relentless, frenetic guitars and crashing percussion. So far, so exciting.

Meanwhile, vocalist Ellen Murphy dramatically sings over it all with a mix of riot grrrl attitude and a laid-back confidence that pulls the whole thing together. The result is that the explosion of energy on display is tight, impressive and professional rather than digressing into a shambolic noise, as may have been the case with lesser bands.

Kids Love Lies only played their first gig this January, but they're already delivering fine power pop that's packed full of clever lyrics and hooks - they're surely ones to watch.

IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: If you live within travelling distance of London and fancy catching Kids Love Lies live, they're playing the Old Blue Last, Great Eastern Street, EC2A on November 6.

WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: You can download Under The Bed free now through Puregroove here. Their debut EP Switch Off is also available on iTunes now.

Last summer at the brilliant Offset Festival, I had the pleasure of catching south London post punk power poppers Kids Love Lies. They've been busy since then.

This week sees the release of their second single proper, 'Under The Bed', following up the riotous 'Count In My Head', complete with ace video. At its heart, 'Under The Bed' is a tender ballad. But slapped all over it is their usual feverish brand of spiky pop, taking on the frenzied nature of Fight Like Apes and the early anthemic infection of The Maccabees.

With any luck, Kids Love Lies will be part of the new wave of edgy pop to dominate the British music scene. A band seeping with passion and a suitably enigmatic frontwoman to match. And suitably foxy. An NME cover surely awaits. First, the NME. Then the world.

Faded Glamour.

'Under The Bed' is the new single from the beguiling Kids Loves Lies. It’s poignant, quirky and charming in equal measure - a whirlwind of a song full of attitude that demands your attention. Brimming with a cacophony of relentless, frenetic guitars, an energetic bassline and crashing percussion, all topped off by Ellen Murphy’s Karen O-esque vocals; the result is an explosion of energy which builds towards the song's climax.

This may be my new favourite band on Cherryade. ‘Under the Bed’ just crackles with energy and a band who really sound like they enjoy themselves. Ellen Murphy’s vocals seem to know just when to notch up and down the volume range and there’s just that sense you get when you know someone has pretty much cracked the perfect pop song.

SINGLE OF THE WEEK

If you’ve got the blues, blow them away with this fantastic slab of female fronted punk rock, sung by Ellen Murphy in a lovely unschooled voice, which puts the fake souls of Brit School to shame. While the sound is familiar, the energy is very much right now: ‘Under The Bed’ is more effervescent than 15 tubes of Berocca tablets.
