Phew! The year '96. The place Denver CO. After numerous name changes, Marshmallow Coast is decided upon while flying home from New York and seeing all of the clouds in the sky. I was helped and encouraged by many great people along the way. Upon living in Athens and putting out cds and having numerous line up changes we arrive at the current incarnation. Now, M Coast is an effort of me, Sara Kirkpatrick, Derek Almstead, and Emily (I can't remember if she changed her name or not!). I need to metntion that Eric Harris is a major player too and though he did not play drums on the new record, I consider him an integral part of it all! Derek will be contributing his very amazing songs to future endeavors, and Emily is singing some of the songs. I am living out my dream of etting others to perform my material, while I can sit back and play guitar solos. Yet, there are certain songs that require my vocal delivery to get the right essence, so I do sing some of the songs on the new record.My focus is on writing very catchy songs inspired by many different genres, while giving quality music, equally essential lyrics that are not annoying and portray a lifestyle of self-actualization in a Maslow's Hierarchal sense.My background is in jazz guitar which I played through high school, and comes out in songs with lots of chords, that can fly right over the head of non-musicians (not that that is a bad thing). I want to create musical enjoyment that does not rely upon lots of speed, posing, and volume/ distortion to be interesting, as I feel this is an easy avenue, tantamount to spraying Mountain Dew in peoples faces. Rather, I would like to pour green tea over their genitalia...
