Baby Calendar - Gingerbread Dog

Baby Calendar's history began as Jackie and Tom sharing in creating acoustic songs together. Armed with only a keyboard and a tambourine, what started out as just good old fashioned fun help stoke the fires that later forged their mighty repertoire of cute and catchy pop songs. They honed their craft by playing open mic nights and soon decided that they were ready to put their newfound talents to the grindstone. Now armed with an EP (Your Move) they started carving their name into the scene by playing shows and selling their EP to the clamoring masses. It wasn't long before Jackie and Tom attracted an army of loyal Baby Calendar disciples, which gave them the satisfaction they needed in order to take Baby Calendar to the next level. Knowing that the time had come to "rock more", they enlisted the help of Arik. Arik and Tom had been friends for a long time and had even played together in another band. Knowing the full potential of Arik's powers, Tom knew that he was exactly what he and Jackie would need in order to make Baby Calendar the twee pop "Juggernaut" they are today. Once Arik adjusted himself into the Baby Calendar fold, work began almost immediately on their follow up full length entitled, "Fifteen Year Old Sneakers".Like a hurricane named Andrew, they took Miami by storm and blew away crowds of fans with their sugary charm and infectious melodies. Local press took to the new album and they quickly became a local favorite. Knowing they had conquered their native land, they knew it was time to add to their empire by marching on the rest of the country. After a relentless tour of duty for a year winning them factions of loyal fans in towns and cities throughout the US, they began writing songs for their next opus. The new songs were recorded as part of Baby Calendar's newest album, "Gingerbread Dog." In celebration of this new album, Baby Calendar has embarked on another campaign to conquer more hearts throughout the country. Currently on a massive tour they will be playing countless festivals, such as the Plan it X fest and the HHBTM Athen's Popfest. Baby Calendar knows no complacency and will continue to push forward, growing as a band and continuously stunning their fans with new songs and albums.

I can hardly wipe the smile off my face as I listed to Baby Calendar. Super fun
music, with somewhat goofy, goodtime vocals and a get up and dance attitude.
Releases like this make me happy to be a reviewer. I love the contrasting yet
complimentary vocals styles of Tom & Jackie and the super sweet indie rock sounds. A few of my favorite tracks are "Traffic in the Tropics" which is a great stripped down melodic tune with guy/gal vocals and a super catchy sound throughout... (http://www.thechickenfishspeaks.com/)
The first thing that impressed us about this CD were the words. The album title (Gingerbread Dog) and the song titles ("Zipped Up," "Lemon Snaps," "Symbiosis," "Skibbledeebee")...yup, we realized right off the bat that these folks have a way with words. Baby Calendar is the duo of Tom Gorrio and Jackie Biver who have now been joined by drummer Arik Dayan. This trio plays playful inventive pop music with unusual song structures and wonderfully subdued vocals. If you aren't paying attention, you might mistake Baby Calendar as being just another underground pop band. But closer observation reveals that this band's music has real substance...and gets increasingly better the more you hear it. We can't help but be in love with the tunes on Gingerbread Dog. This is a great little album that will no doubt be embraced by a small yet extremely devoted base of listeners. (http://www.babysue.com)
Editor's pick! Softened indie pop melodies spread their collective wings with sugary sweet vocal harmonies amped up neatly throughout "Gingerbread Dog". An indie pop band with power pop ballads and thick layers of guitar, vocals, and drums, Baby Calendar impresses you with their witty songwriting and outrageous arrangements...Female and male vocals juxtapose but don't necessarily compete, instead they seem to sort of weave into one another become one singular voice. Excellent! (http://www.smother.net)
