The Bobby McGee's

The Bobby McGee's play The Betsey Trotwood, Spring 2006
"Creators of Tweecore" - Source Magazine
Jimmy & El are on the run from El's evil father. He had kept her locked, alone in her bedroom for years. Jimmy used to throw stones at the window to catch her attention, but it was not until he met his Guru & Mentor "Duke M" that he was trained in the ways of the Ukulele and used his new found powers to rescue her. Now they roam the Galaxy together with their trusty sidekick "Des the soundman" saving people wherever they go from the evils of "Shite Music"....always just one step ahead of El's Evil Father... May the Uke be with you... wherever you go!
The Bobby McGee's have been wowing audiences up and down the country with their exhilarating and wildly original live shows, packed with songs about Star Wars, jeans, Paris, bands from Brighton, falling in love, falling out of love, falling back in love again, and everything in between. Their unique sound has prompted Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank to urge someone out there to "sign them NOW" - fortunately Cherryade had already snapped up the band! The McGee's will be cementing their rapidly-increasing reputation by playing at the presigious Emmaboda Festival in Sweden this summer. Cited as 'founders of Tweecore' by Source Magazine, The Bobby McGee's continue to stop listeners in their tracks with their off-kilter ukelele melodies complete with purring Glaswegian speaking mixed with bittersweet girly shouting; if you haven't heard their music, you're missing out!

CHY005: The Bobby McGee's - "The Bobby McGee's? Yes Please!"
1. Ivor Cutler Is Dead [aka No Friends]
"No Friends" became "Ivor Cutler is Dead" because now Ivor Cutler & John
Peel are dead, I have no friends.
2. Molly's Lips [aka Kill Yourself]
"Kill Yourself" became "Molly's Lips." This was a Vaselines song and they
were one of our main influences. Nirvana covered Molly's Lips and Kurt Cobain killed himself.
3. Genki Sudo By Flying Triangle [aka Butterflies]
"Butterflies" became "Genki Sudo By Flying Triangle." Genki Sudo is a Japanese no-holds barred fighter/wrestler, he competes in these extremely violent fights (real fights, not fake) and he always has hugely stupid and fantastic entrances dressed as a robot or a samurai or a schoolgirl. He bodypops his way to the ring and then precedes to dance around stupidly while his opponent is trying to kill him. Genki always wins. A triangle is a technique where you strangle someone with your legs, the flying bit means it's done in mid-air. Genki is ace, he used to have dreadlocks and after every fight he always holds up banners promoting world peace. I can relate to all that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genki_Sudo;

4. Albert Camus / Audrey Tautou [aka Parisienne]
"It's Parisienne" became "Albert Camus / Audrey Tautou" as these are two French people I love and who represent the different sides of the French. The song could be described as "Amelie via ukulele" and it does mention Camus. He was goalkeeper for the Algerian national team. The band Prolapse, who were friends of mine & whom I loved, had a song called "Slash/oblique" which was pronounced "Slash Stroke Oblique". I wanted a song with a Slash Stroke Oblique.
5. Billy & Tracey [aka Please Don't Dump Me]
"Dumped" or "Please Don't Dump Me" became "Billy & Tracey" after the sad love story of Billy Childish & Tracey Emin. I had an old fiancée called Tracey. Now I am afraid that Eleanor will steal all my good ideas, like Tracey Emin stole all of Billy Childish's good ideas.
6. Morrissey Said To Tori [aka Fuck You]
"Fuck You!" Became "Morrissey said to Tori." Last year Tori Amos told Morrisey that she loved his songwriting to which Morrissey replied "What the fuck do you know about songwriting?"
