Baby Bird
Biography:
Horribly misunderstood, Baby Bird's known hit, 'You're Gorgeous,' bears no relation to the rest of his work, a stark, tortured collection of chamber songs ranging from lo-fi pop oddities to orchestral nightmarish ballads.
Stephen Jones started out his musical career under the Baby Bird after buying a four-track. After recording about 400 songs, Baby Bird released four albums independently, all long since sold out, earning him a deal with Echo Records. 1996's Ugly Beautiful contained *that* song, making Baby Bird the most bizarre overnight pop star I can think of (has anyone actually listened to the lyrics of 'You're Gorgeous'?). Horrified by this sudden thrust into the spotlight, Jones retreated into There's Something Going On, a return to the torturous menace of his earlier work, though 'If You'll Be Mine' was still a hit single. After Bugged, Baby Bird called it a day, ending one of the strangest and most intriguing journeys in pop history.

Most kids of hugely successful musicians never manage to break free of the looming shadow of their parents' musical heritage. What's so remarkable about Baxter Dury is the ease with which he's resisted being automatically labelled as "Ian Dury's son": his ethereal, elegaic dream-pop is as far removed from Dury Senior's music as you can get; only the accolades have demonstrated a link between the two highly-praised songwriters.

Bearsuit
Biography:
Possibly the greatest band in the UK, if not the world. Since their inception in 2000 the 6 piece band, who hail from Norwich - one of the best cities for exciting new music in the UK - have been winning hearts and minds all over the world with their joyful noise pop. The band were perenniel Peel favourites, recording 4 sessions for the Peel Show and scoring 4 festive 50 entries, 3 in the top 10, the highest being 'Chargr,' which reached #2 in 2004. To date, the band have released six 7"s and an album, as well as a split mummified 7" with Aquavista, and appearances on several compilations. Their new album Team Ping Pong is due to be released on Fantastic Plastic in the Autumn. Ian and Lisa from Bearsuit are also in the Cruiser Chimps and Lisa is in Hyperkinako. John Peel apparently once said that "in a world where everything sounds quite like something else, Bearsuit don’t sound quite like anything else." I couldn’t have put it better myself' it's impossible to compare Bearsuit to any other band, and all I can say is that anyone who loves great music will love this band.

She Can't Swim and Bearsuit.

Boyfriends
Biography:
London based band The Boyfriends have found acclaim with their classic-sounding bittersweet songs. Although they have released very little material, their only official release to date being two tracks on the Filthy Little Angels Singles Club EP 3 (a split 7" with friends The Long Blondes), and though they’ve been compared to classic acts such as Smiths, Wedding Present and Joy Division, they manage to avoid sounding derivitive and already stand out from a lot of other new London based bands. And it looks as if they're set to hit the big time after being chosen to support, of all people, Morrissey!
